The Cloud is a unique landmark structure on Queens Wharf along Auckland’s waterfront. It reflects Aotearoa—Land of the Long White Cloud. Built as a temporary structure to accommodate a fan zone during Rugby World Cup 2011, the Cloud has become a multipurpose venue for exhibitions, events, meetings, and weddings.
Authorized Dealer Callander Control installed a Reliable Controls system in this tension-membrane structure. The Cloud is air-conditioned using two temper-zone packaged air-conditioning units that supply a bar and VIP areas.
A particular challenge of the project was completing it in the 2-month period between when the building frame was ready and opening day in September 2011. Once the automation system was installed and commissioned, Callander Control implemented custom programming to maintain temperature setpoints in the structure, made from glass, steel, and PVC.
