Project Profile: Greeley West High School

Greeley West High School, part of Greeley-Evans Weld County School District 6, was constructed in 1965 as an 800-student school. The existing building was supported by 19 portable classrooms with an enrollment that doubled its original capacity. In 2022 construction was completed on a new facility with modern, collaborative spaces, a large central hub, a performance theater, gyms, career and technical program space, daylight-filled classrooms, and enhanced safety and security features.

Authorized Dealer Colorado Controls worked in tandem with the design, structural, and electrical teams on this project to install a Reliable Controls building automation system during construction of the new school.

Colorado Controls implemented 280 Reliable Controls devices, including MACH-ProCom, MACH-Pro2, MACH-ProAir, and MACH-ProZone BACnet Building Controllers, to control the building’s air-handling units, boilers, chillers, variable air volume boxes, radiant heaters, and unit heaters. The 191 MACH-ProAir controllers installed each include an airflow sensor and onboard damper motor, eliminating the need for separate sensors and actuators. Today SMART-Space Controller devices allow building occupants to take control of their personal environment at a glance.

Colorado Controls used the power and flexibility of RC-Studio to integrate the Reliable Controls system with mechanical equipment from numerous third-party vendors. This easy-to-learn, easy-to-use BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation software provides a customizable multiprotocol solution for database, alarming, scheduling, trending, and sequence of operation programming.

For scalable system access and control, facility managers use RC-WebView software, a browser-based building management solution that combines the power of enterprise tools with a simple interface.

The collaborative efforts between the design, mechanical, engineering, and installation teams shaved a year off the project’s schedule. COVID-19 meant contractors planned work and schedules remotely, allowing everyone to call in and participate. The result was a building completed on time and on budget.
