Victoria, BC, Canada – Reliable Controls is pleased to announce compliance with the EU RoHS 3 Directive (EU 2015/863). RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances and restricts the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic products.
In 2017 Reliable Controls announced RoHS 2 compliance for 10 core controller models and in 2020 extended the list to include 21 products. Today the following Reliable Controls products are certified compliant with RoHS 3:
“Our effort to achieve RoHS 3 compliance is not only to maintain certification requirements for Conformitè Europëenne (CE) but also to satisfy the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship,” says Vince Palmer, VP of Operations at Reliable Controls. “Our philosophy is to sustainably source raw materials and manufacture products that minimize both our impact on the environment and the environmental footprint of buildings around the world.”
EU RoHS 3 specifies maximum allowable levels of 10 restricted substances in the manufacturing of electrical and electronic devices: cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, butyl benzyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, and diisobutyl phthalate. The intent of the RoHS Directive is to limit the spread of these substances in the environment as pollutants and reduce occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.
In parallel to RoHS compliance, Reliable Controls follows the WEEE Directive, which sets targets for the design of electronics products with environmentally safe recycling and recovery in mind. This commitment to sustainable manufacturing and responsible recycling is part of what makes Reliable Controls products truly better by design.
